Our Story

What is Week of Music?

Week of Music is Central Reform Congregation's celebration of music as a way to gather — Jewish and not, lifelong members and first-time visitors, kids in pajamas and grandparents in the back row.

For one week, our building (and a few favorite St. Louis venues) fills with concerts, Shabbat services, family sing-alongs, learning over lunch, and a lot of joy. It's called Week of Music because that's exactly what it is. No prior knowledge required — just come.

The heart of it: Shir Shabbat

"We like to say we're an 'ask questions, don't just follow along' kind of place. But on Friday nights at Shir Shabbat, we put the questions down and just sing. The music isn't a performance — it's the prayer itself."

How it started

We have this amazing house band, and suddenly we realized three different national Jewish musicians were all going to be in St. Louis the same week. We decided to open the doors, invite the whole city in, and see what happens when we all play together.

Last Year: An Experiment in Joy

Our inaugural Week of Music in 2026 was an 8-day experiment in participation. We kicked off with the Shabbat Morning Service with Billy Jonas and Rabbi Randy, hosted a sold-out night at Joe's Café, co-sponsored a Havdalah concert with Eliana Light at MaTovu, held lunch-and-learn workshops, ran a nigun circle with Nava Kantor, and a community drum circle with Rob Koritz of Dark Star Orchestra.
